Originally founded in 1880 as a Southern Pacific Rail Road stop named Maley, the town's name was changed to Willcox after a visit from Orlando B. Willcox, who served as a Union General in the Civil War. By the 1930's Willcox was an important cattle shipping hub. Today it is known for the Chiricauha National Monument, Fort Bowie, wine tasting events, and the town's historic feel. It currently has a population of approximately 3,250.
