On May 22, 2024 two of Douglas's historic churches were set on fire by arsonist Eric Duane Ridenour who was charged and convicted of six federal charges on July 11, 2024 related to the fires. St. Stephen's Episcopal Church was destroyed and the First Presbyterian Church was severely damaged.
