Formerly known as Pueblo Nuevo, Pirtleville is an unincorporated town located north of Douglas. It was established in the 1900's to house Mexican Calumet and Arizona smelter workers. Arizona's first and only hispanic governor, Raul H. Castro grew up in Pirtleville and went to high school in nearby Douglas. Today, Pirtelville remains a mostly rural town with a population in 2020 of 4,412.
