This unincorporated town located at the base of the Huachuca Mountains on State Route 92 and Hereford Road was founded by Nick Gregovich. Gregovich was a larger-than-life local character who was a cattle rancher and pilot who once owned approximately 1,700 acres of the surrounding area. He built Nick’s Place in the 1930s and it remained a popular bar until 2011 when it was destroyed by the Monument Fire. He also built a gas station, a general store and a 70-acre air strip. In 1947 Gregovich was written up in Life magazine for being one of the first pilots to use dry ice to seed the clouds for rain. Gregovich died September 24, 1977 and is buried in Bisbee, Arizona where he was born.
