Lowell is a mining town that was incorporated into Bisbee, AZ in the early 1900s. Originally a residential town, it was later settled by many miners from countries such as Finland, Serbia and Montenegro working in the Lavendar pit, an open-pit mine there. As the mining pit was widened, much of the residential area was lost and without residents, many businesses failed. Today all that is left of Lowell is Erie street. In 2024 the owner of what remains of Lowell, Freeport McMoRan, notified the remaining businesses there that their leases would not be renewed due to the upkeep expense for the deteriorating buildings. Postcards circa 1900-1950 owned by Jean Walker.
Jiggeerville was a suburb of Lowell until it became part of the Lavender mine pit in the 1950s.
