In 1905 a $15,000 bond was issued for the school. in September 1905 the school was occupied for the first time. It then contained only five rooms. Until late in 1905 the school had only grade school students, but a freshman class as added and taught by Miss Sarah Hooper now Mrs. James Ely.

Today, a large portion of the Fifteenth street school has been incorporated into a health care facility and the bell tower removed. The original school bell can be viewed at the Douglas-Williams House Museum.
